Our Farms

We have three locations: About three acres at Fiesta Park behind the ball field and about three acres behind John Mall High School, which is also the site of our greenhouse. We also have vegetable beds and chickens in LaVeta. Having many locations is insurance against loss at one location.


Our Farming Practices

Here are the basic approaches we use:
For fertility, we use cover crops and compost them on site.

For weed control, we use a variety of hoes and occasionally our hands. Proper bed preparation and other cultural practices limit weed competitiveness.

For pests, our primary approach is an organic mix of pepper spray, diatinatious earth, garlic, neem oil and other orgainc soultions. Sometimes we use floating row covers and diversity of plantings and other cultural practices that encourage strong plant growth.

We use organic seed. We save some seed on the farm and hope to use more in the future.

5. More freshness: Local food is fresher, healthier and tastes better, because it spends less time in transit from farm to plate, loses fewer nutrients and incurs less spoilage
6. New and better flavors: A commitment to buy local encourages people to discover new foods, new ways to prepare food and promotes a better appreciation of the pleasure of each season’s foods.

7. Good for the soil: Local food encourages diversification of local agriculture, which reduces the reliance on monoculture—single crops grown over a wide area to the detriment of soils.

8. Attracts tourists: Local foods promote agri-tourism—farmers markets and opportunities to visit farms and local food producers help draw tourists to a region.

9. Preserves open space: Buying local food helps local farms survive and thrive, keeping land from being redeveloped into suburban sprawl.
